About the position
ICF is seeking a Data Analyst to support Department of Defense (DoD) mental health research projects that seek to further our understanding of various mental health conditions that are of importance to the DoD. The position involves working with researchers to prepare aggregated datasets of personnel and health variables extracted from Military Health System and other data repositories; support the development of research proposals, reports, and presentations; manage datasets using statistical and MS Office software; and provide clerical and logistics support for research meetings (scheduling, generating minutes). The Data Analyst will support research projects intended to inform clinicians, policy makers, and other researchers about the causes, treatments, and outcomes of conditions that affect active-duty military, such as traumatic brain injury, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), adjustment disorders, operational stress, and other mental health conditions of concern for the DoD.
Responsibilities
• Work closely with researchers, data scientists, an epidemiologist, and a statistician to translate detailed study criteria and compile datasets for planned analyses
• Conceptualize, design, and conduct exploratory analyses and report on key findings to inform studies
• Manage requests, acquisition, and use of large military health and personnel datasets through secure virtual platforms to support a diverse portfolio of psychological health research
• Develop and facilitate implementation of standard operating procedures for research proposal and analytic plan development
• Answer health services questions about the active-duty military population by designing and conducting research projects as a supporting investigator.
• Track research study milestones and communicate updates to the Branch Chief
• Assist researchers with gaining access and use of data via secure virtual platform as needed
• Assist with preparation of research publications, presentations, reports
Requirements
• Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Research Psychology, or other related field
• A minimum of 2 years’ post-masters experience providing psychological health research support to include administrative support, data collection, data entry, and preparation of findings for public dissemination
• At least 2 years of experience working with data management systems
• At least 2 years of demonstrated competence with statistical software packages, including, at a minimum , SAS
• At least 2 years of experience writing SAS, R, and/or SQL code to manage, extract, and manipulate data from large data repositories and relational databases
• At least 2 years of advanced MS Excel skills with demonstrated experience managing, manipulating, and analyzing data
• At least 2 years of experience using statistical software packages and MS Excel to manage and analyze data in response to ad hoc questions
Nice-to-haves
• At least 4 years’ experience providing research support in the field of military psychological health, including administrative support, data collection, data entry, and preparation of findings for public dissemination.
• Experience working with healthcare records or health-related data
• Experience with the DoD or other government agencies
• Experience with developing strategies for process improvement
